I led content strategy and marketing automation for a leading digital marketing consulting firm.

 

We were a tiny, awesome team with zero budget and big goals. I decided to take a break once Jay Baer announced the sale of the company in April 2021.

 

  • Created and launched an email testing and optimization program from scratch  — increased email open rates by 125% and click-thru-rates by over 150% within the first month on the job

  • Managed the entire marketing automation program for B2B sales and media sponsorship sales  — develop scoring and nurture sequences that convert leads into warm sales inquiries

  • Editorial management of Convince & Convert blog — assigned content to internal and external contributors; edited and published all content; wrote, ghostwrote, and repurposed content based on SEO goals, sales goals, and current events.

  • Increased organic visits by 305% via optimized blog content — started at roughly 35K organic visits per month and increased that to 150K organic visits per month.

  • Evaluated, selected, and implemented martech stack — Led and managed the transition from ConvertKit to SharpSpring (marketing automation), Unbounce, Wistia, SEMrush, Optinmonster, Bingewith, and more

  • Lead gen and conversion — created and managed a website conversion program with Optinmonster, toolkits, and related offers, including promo copy, A/B testing, and technical implementation, to grow our email list and generate leads for C&C and sponsored clients — we went from 200 new leads per month to over 5K per month.

  • Created and managed vertical content and vertical-specific email nurture sequences for the sales team, including content and sequences for tourism, higher education, and healthcare (inclusive of copy).

  • Ghostwrote, tested, and sent a weekly email newsletter to the general list and vertical-specific list as "Jay Baer."

  • List building: grew subscribers from 30K to over 100K and segmented those subscribers into role-based and vertical-specific lists.

  • Helped sponsored clients meet lead generation and webinar registration goals — no matter what it took

In my role as Online Marketing Manager, I created and optimized innovative digital marketing programs from the ground up, including:

 

  • Marketing automation – I handled all aspects of our marketing automation program with Marketo, from technical implementation to email copy, measurement, lead scoring, strategy, and more. 

  • Sales and marketing integration – Acted as the bridge between sales and marketing, ensuring the sales team focused on the warmest, highest-quality leads.​

  • Social media marketing — I took the initiative to build ion's first social media programs, which resulted in the sales team closing some of ion's largest Fortune 500 customers.
